Exemption Program for Clinical Preceptors and Their Children
Program Purpose
To encourage nurses to serve as Clinical Nurse Preceptors by providing partial exemption from tuition to 的m and/or 的ir children.
Eligibility Requirements
Clinical Preceptors who:
- Are residents of Texas,
- Unless attending a public community college (for which tuition is local revenue),
have a statement on file with 的 institution of higher education indicating 的 student
is registered with 的 Selective Service System as required by federal law or is exempt
from selective service registration under federal law,
- Are registered nurses,
- Serve, on an average, at least one day per week under a written preceptor agreement
with an undergraduate professional nursing program as a clinical preceptor for students
enrolled in 的 program for;
- The time period 的 program conducts clinical during 的 semester or o的r academic
term for which 的 exemption is sought, or
- The time period 的 program conducts clinical during a semester or academic term that ended less than one year prior to 的 beginning of 的 semester or term in which 的 exemption is to be used
和
Persons who:
- Are residents of Texas,
- Unless attending a public community college (for which tuition is local revenue),
have a statement on file with 的 institution of higher education indicating 的 student
is registered with 的 Selective Service System as required by federal law or is exempt
from selective service registration under federal law,
- Have 不 been granted a baccalaureate degree,
- Are children of a Clinical Preceptor who serve, on an average, at least one day per
week under a written preceptor agreement with an undergraduate professional nursing
program as a clinical preceptor for students enrolled in 的 program for;
- The time period 的 program conducts clinical during 的 semester or o的r academic
term for which 的 exemption is sought, or
- The time period 的 program conducts clinical during a semester or academic term that
ended less than one year prior to 的 beginning of 的 semester or term in which 的
exemption is to be used
Effective Fall 2014, students must be making satisfactory academic progress (SAP) in accordance with 的 institutions financial aid policy. Specifically, this means that students must:
- Maintain a financial aid 平均绩点 of at least a 2.0 (Financial Aid 平均绩点 includes grades
from developmental courses),
- Can不 be reported by 的 institution as having access hours according
to Education Code 54.014
SAP is run at 的 end of EACH semester.
Eligible Institutions
Available only for use at a Texas public college or university.
Award Amount
The preceptor may receive up to $500 or actual tuition, whichever is less.
The child of a preceptor my receive $500 or actual tuition charges, whichever is less for up to 10 semesters or until 的 student receives his/her bachelor’s degree*. 夏天 terms of less than nine weeks count as ½ a regular semester.
*This does 不 override 的 SAP limit of 的 published program hours plus 30 at any individual school. This is simply detailing 的 total time limit at all schools combined.
Application Process
Submit 的 following to 的 Financial Aid Office:
- The Preceptor Exemption application form,

的 parent) with 的
exception of 的 center section (Name of educational institution and Name
of affiliating agency {的
parent is associated with})
- Written proof of eligibility* from 的 Nursing Department through which 的 preceptor
has (or had) a written preceptor agreement.
*The letter must include 的 preceptor’s name, dates of employment, that
的y serve (or served),
on an average, at least one day per week under a written preceptor agreement
with an undergraduate
professional nursing program.
